Best Student Oral Presentation Award

This award recognizes and encourages excellence in graduate studies in the field of magnetism. The winner receives $1,000 and remaining finalists each receive $250. Conference attendees are encouraged to attend the talks and support these young scientists.

Eligibility

  • Full-time PhD graduate students who will be the presenting authors of an accepted oral contribution may apply. Postdoctoral fellows, undergraduates, and non-students are not eligible.
  • Preference will be given to students who are within one year of graduation and who are, and whose advisors are, current members of the IEEE Magnetics Society.
  • The student’s digest must be accepted as an oral presentation through the standard digest review process by the Program Committee.
  • The student must attend the conference to present in person.

Application Procedure

  • Students should apply at the same time as submitting their digests by providing the supplemental information requested in the digest submission process. The digest submission deadline is 12 January 2026. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • DO NOT identify the digest as part of the student award competition in the text of the digest.
  • Students should select “Apply” under Awards in Step 3 of the submission process and submit the following supplemental information:
    1. Expected graduation date, IEEE member number, advisor name, advisor IEEE member number.
    2. One-page description of the motivation for the research, the significance of the research results, and the applicant’s contribution to the work being presented.
    3. Letter of support from the student’s advisor.

Selection Process

Up to five finalists will be selected by the Award Committee based on accepted digests and the supplementary information. The selection process will be overseen by the Chairman of the IEEE Magnetics Society Education Committee and the Chairman of the IEEE Magnetics Society Honors and Awards Committee.

Only the finalists will receive notification of the selection outcome.

The winners will be selected by the Best Student Oral Presentation Award Committee and announced during the Conference. The award consists of a prize of $1000 USD and a certificate for the winners, and a $250 USD prize and certificate for each of the remaining finalists.
